Dentistry for All - Equality in Patient Acceptance

In light of Martin Luther King Jr. Day yesterday, I wanted to share Dr. Hintz's dream that mirrors Mr. King Jr.'s own.

After graduating as a Doctor in Dental Surgery (DDS) in 2008 from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, Dr. Hintz and his wife always wanted to return to central Iowa and start up his own dental practice, especially after noticing that not all patients were receiving the same quality dental care. Dr. Hintz observed that there were various groups of people here in Iowa that are considered under served patients. These groups find it difficult to acquire quality dental care because of some type of barrier, such as language, location, or cost.

Two of the largest under-served groups in Iowa are the Hispanic Community and those with Medicaid coverage. Very few dentists in Iowa accept new Medicaid patients, so those patients often have to travel long distances and wait long periods to receive the care they need. We enjoy treating Medicaid patients and offer them the same quality care we offer to all of our patients.

Many Hispanic Iowans also find it difficult to visit the dentist. Setting up appointments, realizing all treatment options, and understanding insurance coverage and post-care instructions can be extremely challenging and intimidating for those whose second language is English. Unfortunately, there are very few Spanish speaking dentists in Iowa and surrounding areas.

After realizing all of this, Dr. Hintz started up Hintz Family Dentistry, and we have been providing the same high quality dental care to all patients since 2008. We accept the state insurances Medicaid (through the state) and Dental Wellness Plan (through Delta Dental of Iowa), and all 4 of our dentists as well as a large majority of our staff are bilingual at all 3 locations.

"We think it is important to make quality dental care available to all - no matter the situation." - Dr. Hintz
